Kathy's Car Wreck

This is Kathy's car after her accident.  Needless to say it was totaled.  When I heard about the accident it scared the heck out of me.  I think my heart stopped for a moment, but then I realized, "hey, if she is the one calling me, she's obviously not too messed up."  Thankfully she wasn't seriously injured  - just a mild concussion, a very bruised left leg, and some small cuts.  There was a lot of pain, but it doesn't look like there will be anything permanent.  A lot of us have had her in our prayers, and it seems to have helped a lot.

As you can see, her driver's door was pushed pretty far into the passenger compartment and the frame twisted some.  Basically, she had a truck hit her leg.  The driver's door window broke on her head!  Her seat belt and the side-impact beam most likely saved her life.  You can even see the door's sheet-metal folded around the side-impact beam in the enlarged side-view picture!  This was one hell of a way to start out the new year with a bang!  (Okay, terrible pun, but I couldn't resist.)

Late January:  She is still in physical therapy and having some pain, she's doing much better now, has a brand new car (another Civic) and I'm very thankful.  No, not that she bought a new car, that she is getting better (though it is a very nice new car ;-)

Mid February:  Her recovery reached a plateau after two weeks where there is always some pain, but she is trying to get back to her normal life.  She has danced some and even tried a little skiing over President's Day weekend though she couldn't push herself too much because that caused more pain.  Hopefully, her physical therapy will help.

March:  This was a decent month -- dancing more, though still limited, but then things got worse...

Beginning of May:  Her pain got much worse lately; it's almost as bad as it was right after the accident and she hasn't been able to dance for a few weeks!  She is going to start seeing a spine specialist soon.  Please, let's all pray that she heals soon and that there won't  be chronic problems.

Mid-October:  Her medical insurance has been giving Kathy the runaround and has been slow to do anything.  She still has not seen the spine specialist! She called and called all summer long and never got the proper referral she needs. It's really quite pathetic. She has been experiencing pain at various levels, sometimes very bad, for 9 months and her insurance has done little to help.
